My hometown of Melbourne, Australia, has some fantastic milliners and when I found a post for a competition I knew I just had to enter. After registering, I got to work and decided to create something in pink leather on a new block I had purchased on a trip to Dorset in the summer time.
Sometimes I find what I have pictured in my head, can change when creating either by adding more or changing a design completely. But I had finally finished, arranged for shipping ( I should add here that I didn’t know exactly how long it would take to get to Oz so I posted it in October for the competition closing date at the end of January!!!) I think I was the first parcel to arrive! All headpieces were photographed, given a number and people could visit the shop to place their vote and we also found out that we could vote online.
As I’m not one to shy away from a challenge, I rallied my friends and family in Oz and practically begged them to visit the shop and vote for me, and if they couldn’t make, then, online it was!
The day of the show, I set the alarm for 5am and watched bleary eyed online all the events that were happening. It was brilliant to watch and I was able to work out that the online votes got me to approximately 4th place -so that wasn’t too bad for little ol’ me!!
Maybe I’ll try it again sometime!!!
